Salford Angling – About us

Posted on October 8, 2025October 9, 2025 By steve

Salford Angling Club was started in 1973 by four anglers who rented a small pond near to Pickmere Lake, Cheshire.

The original name of the club, for a short time, was Wellington Anglers until more members joined, and the name of the club was changed to Salford Angling Club.

The club membership grew in size and several more waters were acquired:-

A small Pond in Astley together with a stretch of the river Bollin.

Big Moss pond in Astley, and then Roe Green pond in Worsley.

Further waters were added;-Abram, Sandholes, and Three Sisters, all in the local area.

We also controlled stretches of the Rivers Mersey and Glaze. The rights to these were given up for various reasons.

Club meetings in the early years were held at The Two Brewers pub on Regent Road, Swinton Rugby Club, and is now held at the Borough Social Club, Swinton. The present membership is over 200.
